The antifascist international Kenya Chapter with the support of the embassy of Venezuela in Kenya are organizing a weeklong critical discussions with Sandew Hira on Kenya’s social, political and economic challenges through a decolonial framework. Hira will deal with the following topics:

  • Geopolitics and the transition from a unipolar to a multipolar world and the transition from a universal to a pluriversal civilization.
  • How do we develop economic policies based on social justice as an alternative for neoliberalism? What can we learn from the experiences of socialism and especially China, Cuba and Venezuela?
  • What is the relationship between, individual, class, ethnicity and religion in societies like Kenya and how does decolonial theory differ from other theories of social relations?
  • Liberal political theory knows only one valid political system: parliamentary democracy with political parties representing different sections of society, the separation of powers with three branches of power, the separation of state and church and the concept of the nation state. What is the decolonial alternative for liberal political theory? What are the criteria to just which system is best for which country? How do these discussion manifest itself in Kenya?
  • The educational system is the backbone of controlling the mind of the people. At the top level is the university, which is the centre for the production of knowledge. How is the colonization of the mind express in the educational system in Kenya? What are the efforts to decolonize this system and what are the results? What are the lessons that we can learn from the global international movement to decolonize the educational system?

Conversations on these topics will be held at the University of Nairobi, Kenya National Library, Kenyatta University, Machakos University, different bookshops and the Embassy of Venezuela.

I promised to put up the video of my keynote speech at the embassy of Venezuela on Friday 12 November.

Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cabDJoBmrIQ. There is an interesting discussion with the secretary general of the Communist Party of Kenya Marxist Booker Ngesa Omole from 1:22:58 to 1:32:45 and from 1:32;58 to 2:01:14 about DTM and Marxism.

Here two articles with my response to Marxist critique of DTM by Vijay Prashad.
