The call for the rewriting of Surinamese history has grown stronger in recent years with the recognition of slavery and colonialism as a crime against humanity. In 1982, following in the footsteps of Anton de Kom, Sandew Hira made an attempt to rewrite the history of Suriname. At the time, Hira employed a Marxist framework. Four decades later, he has developed into a theorist of Decolonizing The Mind (DTM) and has rewritten the book.
In his lecture, Hira will address the principles of history rewriting, the implications for the discussion regarding reparations, and apologies from the Dutch government and King William Alexander.
The lecture is in Dutch.
