The call for the rewriting of Surinamese history has grown stronger in recent years with the recognition of slavery and colonialism as a crime against humanity. In 1982, following in the footsteps of Anton de Kom, Sandew Hira made an attempt to rewrite the history of Suriname. At the time, Hira employed a Marxist framework. Four decades later, he has developed into a theorist of Decolonizing The Mind (DTM) and has rewritten the book.
